Recorded Turnout 69.43% In First Phase, Lok Sabha elections 2019
The seven-phase Lok Sabha elections officially begun on 11 April. However, the mud fight is still going on. Polling for the first phase took place in 91 parliamentary constituencies spread across 20 states. The final results will be announced on 23rd May.
DMK on Friday announced its candidates for by-elections to 4 Legislative Assembly constituencies in Tamil Nadu on May 19 N Pazhanisamy will contest from Sulur, Senthil Balaji from Aravakurichi, MC Shanmugaiya from Ottapidaram and P.Saravanan from Thiruparankundram.
Speaking at an election rally in Tamil Nadu's Theni, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that Rahul Gandhi is not acceptable as a PM candidate to other alliance leaders, as all of them aspire for the post. Some days ago DMK Supremo projected the 'naamdar' as the PM candidate, no one was ready to accept it, not even their 'mahamilawati ' friends. Why? Because they all are in the line to be PM and dream of the post he remarked. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Friday attacked the Opposition in a blog written by him. He said that the Opposition is in a disarray after the first phase of voting and that its campaign is a "rent a cause one".
He also attacked the Congress party for raising the issue of Smriti Irani's educational qualification, alleging that the party's President Rahul Gandhi got an M.Phil. without a Master’s degree.
