Bangladesh Defeat India By 3 Wickets To Lift Maiden U19 World Cup

Bangladesh defeated India by three wickets (DLS method) to lift their first U19 World Cup title here at Senwes Park on Sunday. This is Bangladesh’s first-ever ODI series win over India.

India set a moderate target score of 178 ahead of Bangladesh, but credit goes to Parvez Hossain and bowlers like Shoriful Islam, who took 2 wickets for 31 runs in his 10 overs, on Bangladesh side to help them win their maiden title.

Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal carved 88 from 121 balls and Ravi Bishnoi remained outstanding as he was able to add a total of 4 wickets for India. However, their outstanding performance couldn’t save India from defeat.

Due to a brief interruption caused by rain, Bangladesh was given a target of 170 in 46 and the further was decided on the basis of the Duckworth-Lewis method.

Jaiswal and Tilak Verma built the second wicket partnership of 94-run at a slow pace. Tanzim Hasan Sakib provided the much-needed breakthrough to Bangladesh as he dismissed Verma on 38 runs. Bangladesh bowlers bowled really well, especially pacers as they clinched seven wickets. Avishek Das bagged three wickets while Shoriful Islam and Tanzim Hasan Sakib both picked two wickets each.

Yashasvi Jaiswal became a man of the tournament for he scored 400 runs in the tournament. His lowest score is an unbeaten 29 and he has scored a half-century or more in every other match, being dismissed only three times. In the 6 matches he has played so far, Yashasvi has hit a total of 10 sixes. Jaiswal now surpassed Tadiwanashe Marumani of Zimbabwe in the list of batsmen to hit the most sixes in the ongoing World Cup.
