India Crush New Zealand to Continue Dominance in Under-19 World Cup
India continued their dominant run in the Under-19 World Cup with a crushing seven-wicket victory over New Zealand in a rain-truncated match on Saturday. The contest was reduced to 37 overs per side due to damp conditions, but India showed complete authority to register their third consecutive win and top Group B.
After opting to bowl first, India’s bowlers delivered an outstanding performance. RS Ambrish (4/29) and Henil Patel (3/23) led the charge, reducing New Zealand to 69 for seven. Despite some resistance from the lower order, the Kiwis were bowled out for 135 in 36.2 overs. Callum Samson (37), Selwin Sanjay (28), and Jacob Cotter (23) were the main contributors.
Chasing a revised DLS target of 130, India raced to victory in just 13.3 overs. Skipper Ayush Mhatre played a sensational knock, scoring 53 off just 27 balls, while Vaibhav Sooryavanshi smashed 40 off 23 deliveries. The duo added a rapid 76-run partnership, dismantling the New Zealand bowling attack.
Although both batters fell in quick succession, Vihaan Malhotra and Vedant Trivedi calmly guided India home. Mhatre later praised the team’s adaptability and confidence, especially under weather interruptions, saying the players backed their basics and showed maturity beyond their years.
