India’s Team for Davis Cup and Fed Cup Announced
The All India Tennis Association (AITA) announced India’s team for the Davis Cup clash against Italy also for the Fed Cup. According to a press release by AITA, India will host Italy for Davis Cup World Cup qualifier tie at the Calcutta South Club from February 1, 2019. The Fed Cup Asia/ Oceania Group event will take place in Astana, Kazakhstan in February.
Asiad gold medallist Divij Sharan is slated to return to the Indian team for his second Davis Cup appearance along with veteran Rohan Bopanna, Saketh Myneni, Ramkumar Ramanathan and Sasi Kumar Mukund in the team.
Davis Cup non-playing captain Mahesh Bhupathi had earlier said that this will be India’s best chance to beat Italy in the qualifiers for finals as they are playing on grass.
Meanwhile, India has named Ankita Raina, Karman Thandi, Pranjala Yadlapalli, Prarthana Thombare and Rutuja Bhosale for the Fed Cup. Vishal Uppal will be the captain of the Fed team with Ankita Bhambri named as coach.
