Telangana’s Sowmya Selected for AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2026
G Sowmya from Telangana has been selected to represent India in the prestigious AFC Women's Asian Cup, marking a significant milestone in her football career. She has been named in the Indian Senior Women’s National Team squad for the tournament to be held in Australia.
Currently serving as an Assistant Manager at the State Bank of India, LHO Koti, Sowmya’s achievement has brought pride to Telangana’s sporting community. Officials from the Telangana Football Association described her selection as a testament to her dedication and perseverance.
The Indian squad completed an intensive four-week preparatory training camp in Turkey before arriving in Perth on February 11, 2026. The rigorous training focused on match fitness, tactical discipline, and team cohesion ahead of the high-stakes tournament.
