Tim David Suspended for IPL 2027 Opener After Code of Conduct Breach
Royal Challengers Bengaluru batter Tim David has been handed a one-match suspension for IPL 2027 after violating the IPL Code of Conduct during the IPL 2026 final against Gujarat Titans. The incident occurred during the 10th over of the first innings at Narendra Modi Stadium when David allegedly threw an ice bag aggressively in the direction of umpire Nitin Menon following a wicket.
The IPL fined David 50 percent of his match fee and added two demerit points to his record for a Level 1 offence under Article 2.9 of the Code of Conduct. The rule prohibits players from throwing cricket equipment or other objects in an inappropriate or dangerous manner toward officials, players, or other individuals during a match.
This was David’s third disciplinary offence of the season. He had already accumulated three demerit points from earlier incidents in Matches 20 and 54. The latest violation increased his total to five demerit points, triggering an automatic one-match suspension under IPL regulations.
David accepted both the charge and punishment imposed by match referee Javagal Srinath. Consequently, he will miss the opening match of IPL 2027 for whichever franchise he represents. The suspension came shortly after RCB secured their second consecutive IPL title with a five-wicket victory over Gujarat Titans.
