‘2.0’ Movie Review – Akshay Steals the Show!

The most awaited film of Superstar Rajinikanth ‘2.0’ has finally hit the screens today. The film created hype for a long time now, with first look pictures, teaser, and trailer. Let’s check whether the movie is worth all of it or not!

2.0 Movie Story:

An Ornithologist (Akshay Kumar) commits suicide by jumping from a top of a mobile phone tower and return as fifth force to take revenge on people for harming birds with mobile phone radiation. The only thing that opposes him is ‘2.0’, the upgraded version of ‘Chitti’. How Chitti saves the mankind from this Ornithologist forms rest of the story.

Villain Performance

As an overly passionate bird-enthusiast who kills everyone who uses mobile phones, Akshay Kumar played the role very well. The reason behind an old man turning into a villain seems to be silly, but Akshay pulled it with his performance. The visuals made him look fierce but his character will be loved even by kids along with other audience.

Hero Performance:

Rajinikanth was introduced as a scientist Vasigaran who comes to investigate the reason behind mischievous things happening like mobile phones flying from everyone’s hands and from the shelves. Rajinikanth in his role looks very young than in his previous movie ‘Robo’. He did his job well as a scientist who saves the people with the help of ‘2.0’ version of Chitti.

Heroine Performance:

Nila (Amy Jackson) is a humanoid Robot, who is an assistant for Rajinikanth. The way she throws Vadivelu dialogues at Rajinikanth will create a few laughs. The dramatic hair-flying moment every time she is next to Chitti will also impress the audience to some extent! Overall, Amy did her best to bring life to her role.

2.0 Movie Review

The plot of ‘2.0’ feels similar as the story was revealed in the trailer itself. Also, there is no mystery involved in the supernatural occurrences we see in the movie. The director made audience to wait till the second half to reveal the flashback of villain, but he failed to hit the hearts of the people emotionally, with villian’s (Akshay) flashback.

Some great visuals like mobile phones crawling on the road, a forest of glowing phones, a monstrous bird that crackles with energy, in the first half were impressive. Unlike in the original movie, ‘2.0’ failed to create humor through Chitti. Even the dialogues were hard to remember, as there is lack of punch.

The character of Sudhanshu Pandey who is the son of the villain in the original movie ‘Robo’ looks underdeveloped. The only punch dialogue Nila gets when she criticizes Chitti saying that he is not No. 1 now, grabs audience interest.

The climax battle between 2.0 and Akshay ensures the movie is worth our bucks, as we get the bangs there, which is much-needed then.

Even though Shankar had unfolded the story in the trailer, a little suspense was maintained to surprise the audience in the theatres, which cannot be revealed here.

Verdict:

Overall, ‘2.0’ can be watched on screens for its visual effects, Akshay and Rajini performances, and for a little suspense!
