74-Year-Old Andhra Woman Gives Birth to Twins!

A 74-year-old woman has delivered girl twins on Thursday in Guntur, Andhra Pradesh. Doctor S. Umashankar and his team told that it is a medical miracle. Mangayamma had conceived through In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) process and delivered twins at Ahalya Nursing Home. A team of four doctors performed the cesarean operation and both the mother and the babies were doing well. Mangayamma has become the oldest woman in the world to give birth now. Earlier, 70-year-old Daljinder Kaur was the oldest woman in the world to give birth to a baby through IVF process.
Mangayamma hails from Nelapartipadu in East Godavari district. Even after 54 years of her marriage, she was childless and so the couple has opted for IVF process. They consulted Umashankar who decided that Mangayamma is fit to give birth. She was conceived in the very first cycle of the IVF procedure and ten doctors kept a check on her health for nine months. “Her general health, nutrition and cardiac health are monitored by a team of doctors,” said Umashankar.
"I am very happy. God has answered our prayers," Mangayamma told. Her husband distributed sweets to everyone and celebrated the occasion. The couple wanted to perform 'Seemantham', a traditional ceremony which would be performed in the eight-month, but doctors asked them to wait for a few more days. Later, the nursing home organized the ceremony a few hours before her delivery! Family members, hospital staff and others wished the couple.
