AP CM Jagan Launches ‘YSR Vahana Mitra’!

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy on Friday launched the 'YSR Vahana Mitra' welfare scheme in Eluru, West Godavari. The scheme provides an annual cash incentive of Rs 10,000 to auto, taxi and maxi-cab drivers and also to the persons who have own vehicles. The amount is being sanctioned to meet maintenance expenses and to obtain insurance, fitness and other documents. People are praising the Chief Minister for fulfilling his promise made while his ‘Padayatra’ before the elections, in Eluru.
“With the daily earnings of Rs 200 to Rs 500, you people have told me that it was difficult to maintain the family and meet other vehicle expenses. The YSR Vahana Mitra scheme will provide Rs 50,000 to self-employed drivers in the next five years,” said Jagan. The process of transferring the money to the beneficiaries’ bank accounts was shown to the people on screen for understanding. The government said that the applications would be entertained till the end of this month. If the persons who bought new Vehicles failed to do it this month, they can apply in November.
Joint Transport Commissioner LSM Ramasree said that the applications were fewer as they estimated at least 4 lakh applications! “We even relaxed the rules, allowing the people to apply even whose vehicles have been registered in another family member’s name,” she said. 1,75,352 applications were received under the scheme, where 1,73,102 drivers had qualified as beneficiaries. Of these beneficiaries, 79,000 belong to BC, 40,000 to SC, above 6,000 to ST communities. 17,500 of the beneficiaries were from minority groups, of which 20,000 were Kapus, 397 Brahmins and 9,995 were from EBC.
