Imtiyaz Wani who is a senior Jammu and Kashmir government officer took to social media to complain about Jammu & Kashmir police on duty for Amarnath Yatra. He alleged that ambulance carrying his father’s dead body was force stopped for hours on Srinagar-Jammu national highway. Wani’s father died in Delhi and he was carrying his body to their hometown Srinagar via Jammu.
The reason for stopping the vehicle was the traffic restrictions placed for the Amarnath Yatra. There is a daily five-hour restriction on the highway for locals till 15th August. During these hours, the convoy carrying Amarnath pilgrims is allowed on the highway.
However, the police claimed that the facts were not stated correctly. A police spokesperson said, “The ambulance was trying to overtake the Yatra convoy which was not allowed by the convoy commander. But the (security) officer could not verify the fact that the ambulance was carrying a dead body in the moving convoy. Thus, it was stopped.”
In 2019, the Amarnath Yatra is scheduled from 01st of July and will end on 15th of August.
