As the coronavirus pandemic and lockdown has affected the supply chain in China, Apple is making mind to shift its 20% of the manufacturing units to India through contract manufactures.
Reports have that Apple’s senior executives and the Indian government’s top-ranking officials have been discussing the plan of shifting the company’s manufacturing units from China to India.
Apple is looking for a massive revenue of $40 billion in India over the next five years with its contract manufacturers Foxconn and Wistron for the production of its devices in India.
The Indian government also approved the Production Linked Incentive Scheme (PLI) for large-scale electronics manufacturing which aims at increasing the production of electronic components, semiconductors, and mobile phone components, creating 200,000 new jobs over five years.
Apple is also working on opening the largest retail store in India which is likely to be in Mumbai’s Maker Maxity mall in Bandra Kurla Complex.
