Battle Of The Richest: Bezos And Ambani Eyes On India’s Retail Market
Billionaires Jeff Bezos and Mukesh Ambani, two of the world’s richest men, are eyeing on the retail market in India as they plan for nearly trillion-dollar retail market from the country.
While they have been ruled over by court, both the empires Amazon.com and Reliance Industries are in hidden combat to conquer over the competent and find its place in India’s biggest retail market.
Evident are two outcomes from the battle of the richest that if Amazon wins over the market than Reliance’s plans to expand its e-commerce and brick-and-mortar operations will be shattered whereas if the latter succeed to conquer over its domestic market, then Amazon may lose its further expansion in India’s second-largest retailer and ending up closing its grocery supply chain.
While it is interesting to see two of the biggest companies fighting over to get the spot, Amazon has always been a big face in the field while Ambani maintains a history of giving surprises, and going beyond the expectations.
Meanwhile, Reliance, seeking to expand its JioMart e-commerce business, this month completed a $6.4 billion fund-raising by selling a stake in its retail arm to such investors as Silver Lake Partners and KKR & Co.
