Beware of third party apps
Usage of smartphones is increased a lot nowadays, online money transfer has become common. Every bank has its own app for all bank transactions and bill payments. However, Paytm, Tez, Bhim is also used for transactions and money transfers.
In this trend, there are some apps avail cash back and reward points to attract users. Users unawareness has been a strength to Hackers and cheating people in online.
Especially third-party apps use a user bank account, personal details and committing to fraud has become easy these days. RBI’s caution to all people not to believe in third-party apps for money transactions. Recently an old bank employee from Bangalore has lost 1 lakh.
In detail, Retired Syndicate bank employee Narayan hedge is an e-vallet user. In his new mobile to restore the app he seek online help he came across ‘Anydesk’ app, during installation a message appeared like “Please forward this message after installation of the app”, the user did the same. Apparently, he lost money from his bank account. Narayan Hegde approached in the Bank branch. They found Rs 1,24,000 is transferred to ‘Aditya BirlaPayments Bank’ lead customer and bank into shock and filed a complaint in cybercrime.
‘Anydesk’ app after installation sends a 9-digit code to the user and ask them to forward code so that user phone number can be easily accessed by hackers. So friends please be aware of third-party apps!
