Biden Resolute in Campaign Continuation, Prepares for Upcoming Rally
Washington: Amidst recovering from a recent Covid-19 diagnosis and facing increasing pressure from within his party to step aside, US President Joe Biden has reaffirmed his commitment to his reelection campaign. Despite calls from some Democrats for his resignation, Biden, 81, remains steadfast in his decision to run against former President Donald Trump.
Currently isolating at his Delaware residence following his positive Covid-19 test, Biden plans to rejoin the campaign trail next week. "Donald Trump’s dark vision for the future is not who we are as Americans," Biden stated in a campaign release on Friday. "Together, as a party and as a country, we can and will defeat him at the ballot box."
Reflecting on Trump's formal acceptance of the Republican presidential nomination at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Biden emphasized his intention to counter Trump's agenda. "I look forward to getting back on the campaign trail next week to continue exposing the threat of Donald Trump’s Project 2025 agenda while making the case for my own record and the vision that I have for America: one where we save our democracy, protect our rights and freedoms, and create opportunity for everyone," he declared.
Biden criticized Trump's keynote speech at the convention, noting its focus on personal grievances rather than national unity. "For over 90 minutes, he focused on his own grievances, with no plan to unite us and no plan to make life better for working people," Biden remarked. "He avoided mentioning his Project 2025 agenda but still proudly flaunted the worst of MAGA extremism."
The Biden-Harris campaign highlighted that, contrary to Trump's promises of unity and reduced rhetoric, his speech remained self-centered and inflammatory. "Trump is still the same twice-impeached, 34-time indicted individual consumed by revenge and hellbent on seeking retribution in a second term," the campaign asserted. "He did not turn a new leaf; he did not usher in a new era of civility; and he certainly did not change course."
Since his Covid-19 diagnosis on Wednesday, Biden has been recovering at his beach home after abruptly ending his trip to Las Vegas. While Democrats remain divided over Biden's chances against Trump in the upcoming election, with at least 10 party members recently urging him to resign, the President remains determined to pursue his campaign goals.
