Bomb Threat Emails Heighten Security at Hyderabad Airport
Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) has been on high alert after a series of bomb threat emails targeting multiple flights over the past four days. The threatening emails, sent anonymously to the airport’s customer support and operations teams, claimed that explosives had been planted aboard several international and domestic flights. In response, airport security agencies intensified checks, deployed additional anti-sabotage teams, and initiated emergency protocols that included flight diversions, delayed landings, and precautionary evacuations.
On Saturday, an email warned of potential bombs on two flights—British Airways flight BA 277 from Heathrow to Hyderabad and Kuwait Airways flight KU 373. While BA 277 landed safely at 5:25 AM and underwent thorough inspection before being declared clear, KU 373 was instructed to return to its departure airport as a safety measure. A day earlier, an Emirates flight from Dubai, EK 526, also received a bomb threat email; security forces later confirmed it as a hoax after extensive checks.
Similar warnings continued through the week, including threats to a Delhi–Hyderabad flight that also landed safely after emergency protocols were executed. At least three flights have been diverted or returned mid-journey due to precautionary procedures since Wednesday.
The RGI Airport police have registered criminal cases and launched an investigation to identify the individuals behind the emails. Cybercrime units are assisting in tracing the digital origins of the messages. Authorities believe the threats may be intended to create public panic and disrupt airport operations.
Despite heightened security, airport officials assured passengers that safety measures are fully in place and operations continue with enhanced vigilance. Travellers have been urged to cooperate during security checks and report any suspicious activity. The repeated threats have highlighted the growing necessity for advanced cybersecurity and intelligence-based screening in aviation.
