A case has been booked against a vernacular news channel for telecasting false news related to the COVID-19 virus that has killed over 60,000 people around the globe.
Satyanarayana Guptha from New Maruthi Nagar in Kothapet was booked a case for reporting fake news about the owner of a mutton stall at Chaitanyapuri crossroads getting infected with Coronavirus.
News claimed that the owner of the mutton shop was infected with coronavirus and warned everyone not to purchase meat from his shop as they could be infected with the virus too.
The news created havoc in and around the area and after further investigation by the police, the news turned out to be a false one. “The news report created panic among the customers and citizens alike. Subsequently, it was found out that the news report was false and telecasted without verification of facts,” police said.
The fake news damaged the image of the mutton shop owner and regarding it, a case has been booked against the news channel owner and investigation has been started.
