Centre Is Ready To Make Strictest Law On Vet's Rape And Murder
Condemning the gruesome gang rape and murder of a veterinary doctor Priyanka Reddy in Hyderabad last week, Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday declared that the central government is all set to implement strictest laws to stop such crimes in future.
As the Deputy Leader of the House, the Minister said that "no action could be as inhuman as this incident which happened last week in Hyderabad. The entire country is hurt and All lawmakers cutting across party lines have condemned the incident and demanded to give severe punishment to the accused involved.
Adding to this, he also said that, "after the Nirbhaya incident, a strict law was made and people thought that the number of such incidents would go down, but, such horrible acts have been still continuing."
The Minister said on the issue after the opposition raised the concern for the second time in the House during Zero Hour and various leaders sought tough punishment for the criminals involved in the case and sought a stringent law to curb such crimes.
Speaking in the Rajya Sabha, Samajwadi Party MP Jaya Bachchan on Monday said that capital punishment was perhaps the only way to put an end to dreadful crimes against women.
Ghulam Nabi Azad said that many legislations had been enacted in the past to deal with such crimes but it was time for people from across society to raise their voice against such acts.
The gruesome rape and murder on November 27 in the Ranga Reddy district have evoked protests across the country with people demanding capital punishment for the criminals.
