Chandrababu Naidu's Relentless Mission During Hudhud Cyclone Relief
After the devastating Hudhud cyclone struck Visakhapatnam in 2014, former Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu transformed a bus into his mobile command center. For nearly a week, Naidu used the bus as both his office and temporary residence, stationed at the Visakhapatnam collectorate. Refusing the comfort of a hotel, he chose to stay close to the people, overseeing relief efforts and coordinating recovery operations.
Naidu worked tirelessly, sleeping only a few hours each night, as he led the response to restore normalcy in the cyclone-ravaged city and surrounding coastal areas. A TDP leader from Visakhapatnam recalled Naidu's dedication, noting that he conducted daily review meetings late into the night from the bus, which also doubled as a meeting space for officials. His focus was not only on rebuilding infrastructure but also on ensuring the affected families received essential supplies, including food, drinking water, milk, and vegetables.
During the relief operations, Naidu personally monitored the distribution of relief materials, coordinating with various agencies to speed up the recovery process. His hands-on approach left a lasting impact on the region's recovery, and his experience during the Hudhud disaster proved to be invaluable in later crisis management, including the recent floods in Vijayawada, according to Minister N Rama Naidu.
Naidu’s commitment to the people during their time of need became a defining moment of his leadership during the disaster.
