Cherry Blossoms in Japan – Enchanting!

The delightful cherry blossoms are the most wonderful thing to see in Japan! Getting ready for the spring excites people there and around the world as a pleasant feel cannot be felt through the year. This seasonal blossom makes your mind relax and heart fell in love with it.

People in Japan and many parts of the world have been obsessed with pretty pink flowers. They call it Hanami, which is the biggest seasonal custom where people meet friends, families, and enjoy watching fascinating cherry blossoms.

A lot of Japanese goes on a picnic under the cherry blossoms, eat, drink, and view flowers at night (“Yozakura” in Japanese).

There are over 200 kinds of cherry blossoms in Japan and the most common one is called “Somei Yoshino”, the flowers with pink pale petals. “Yaezakura” has thick bright pink petals and bloom few weeks after Somei Yoshino, and “Shidarezakura” is also one of the common blossoms, which is also called weeping cherry blossoms.

Shibazakura (pink moss) is another famous spring flower, which is not exactly cherry blossoms but often described as “lawn cherry blossoms” and blooms in April to May.

Now, it is time for the people to enjoy Shibazakura. At the foot of the highest mother mountain, Mt. Fuji, the Fuji Shibazakura festival will be held which shows the beautiful lawn made of over 800,000 pieces of cherry flowers every year.

The two versions of Mt. Fuji - the real one and the mini one made of white and pink cherry flowers should be visited at least once in a lifetime!

Higashimokoto Shibazakura Park is just another spot one must visit, where the lawn cherry blossom spreads over hillside for about 100,000 square meters.
