Congress Leaders Optimistic Despite Exit Poll Predictions
A day before the 2024 Lok Sabha election results are announced, Congress leader Sonia Gandhi expressed hope that the actual results would contradict the predictions made by exit polls. These exit polls had suggested a third consecutive term for the BJP-led NDA, with most of them forecasting 350-400 seats for the alliance.
Sonia Gandhi stated that the party is waiting patiently for the official results and remains optimistic about their performance. This statement followed Rahul Gandhi's rejection of the exit poll results, where he claimed that the INDIA bloc, led by Congress, would secure 295 seats in the Lok Sabha polls.
Rahul Gandhi dismissed the exit polls as "Modi media polls" and referenced a song by Sidhu Moose Wala titled "295" when asked about the expected number of seats for the INDIA bloc.
Similarly, Arvind Kejriwal and Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh also rejected the exit poll outcomes. Kejriwal criticized the timing of the polls conducted by the BJP, labeling them as "fake" and unnecessary right before the election results. Meanwhile, Amarinder Singh expressed confidence in the Congress party's performance, disregarding the BJP's projections and asserting that the Congress would emerge as the leading party in Punjab.
The votes cast in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, conducted in seven phases beginning April 19, are set to be counted on June 4.
