Questions regarding coronavirus if it can infect a treated person again have been afloat for a long time. World health organization now brings clarity to it.
WHO clarifies it by stating that there is “no evidence” that people who have recovered from COVID-19 and have antibodies are protected from a second coronavirus infection.
Earlier, people who recovered from the virus were allowed to resume to work thinking that they developed immunity against the novel coronavirus. This would issue them an “immunity passport” or “risk-free certificate” that would allow them to travel or return to work.
The WHO said it’s reviewing the scientific evidence on antibody responses to coronavirus, but as yet no study has evaluated whether the presence of antibodies “confers immunity to subsequent infection by this virus in humans.”
Currently, the virus has infected over 2,867,984 people around the world out of which 1,848,844 have recovered from the illness while around 2 lakh people have died due to it.
