Union Health Ministry put the number of confirmed cases so far across the country at 8356 with 273 deaths while 715 patients have been cured of the virus or discharged.
The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has said that a total of 1.79 lakh samples had been tested in India till Saturday.
With the Video conference meet yesterday, it is reported that the lockdown is likely to be extended beyond 14 April. While some of the states like Odisha, Maharashtra and Telangana have already made official announcement about the lockdown extended to two weeks.
Joint Secretary in the Health Ministry Lav Agarwal said on Saturday that the number of coronavirus cases in the country could have increased to 8.2 lakh by April 15 had India not implemented a lockdown and other containment measures.
So far, Maharashtra has reported the most coronavirus deaths at 127, followed by Madhya Pradesh at 36, Gujarat at 22 and Delhi at 19.
The highest number of confirmed cases in the country are from Maharashtra at 1,761, followed by Delhi at 1,069 and Tamil Nadu at 969.
