Delhi-Bound Air India Flight Catches Fire After Landing, No Casualties Reported

An Air India flight from Hong Kong to Delhi had a narrow escape after it caught fire shortly after landing at the Indira Gandhi International Airport on July 22, 2025. Fortunately, all passengers and crew members on board Flight AI 315 disembarked safely, and no injuries were reported.
The incident occurred once the aircraft had safely landed and reached its designated gate. According to Air India’s statement, the fire broke out in the aircraft’s Auxiliary Power Unit (APU), a small engine at the tail of the plane used to power systems while the main engines are off. The onboard safety system detected the fire and automatically shut down the APU, effectively preventing a major mishap.
Air India took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to confirm that while the aircraft sustained some damage, all passengers exited the aircraft safely and calmly. The airline stressed that passenger safety remains its top priority and confirmed that standard emergency protocols were followed by the crew. The situation was handled promptly, and emergency services were on standby.
The aircraft has since been grounded for a detailed inspection. India’s aviation regulator has been notified and will investigate the cause of the APU fire. Authorities are expected to review whether any existing safety procedures need updating to prevent similar incidents.
The airline commended the crew for their professional response and reassured the public that all safety mechanisms on the aircraft functioned as designed. Despite the scare, the incident underscores the importance of robust safety systems in modern aviation. Meanwhile, passengers expressed relief and gratitude that the situation was handled without panic or injury.
