Dhoni's Six Backfires as RCB Defeats CSK in IPL 2024 Knockout
In a thrilling virtual knockout match of IPL 2024, MS Dhoni's efforts couldn't secure a victory for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). With CSK needing 17 runs in the last over, Dhoni faced RCB's Yash Dayal. The veteran wicket-keeper batsman started strong, hitting the first ball of the 20th over for a six, reducing the target to 11 runs from 5 balls.
However, Dhoni's powerful six inadvertently played into RCB's hands, as the ball was lost, forcing the officials to replace it with a new one. Dinesh Karthik, in a video shared by RCB on social media, revealed the advantage this gave his team. "MS Dhoni hitting that 110M six outside the Chinnaswamy was the best thing that happened; it gave us a new ball which helped us," Karthik said. Virat Kohli echoed Karthik's sentiment, acknowledging the significant impact of the new ball.
With the old ball soaked due to the dew, the new ball provided better grip and control for Dayal. On the second delivery of the over, Dayal dismissed Dhoni, caught by Swapnil Singh. This crucial wicket left CSK without the needed firepower to chase the remaining runs.
Dayal's precise bowling in the remaining deliveries, consisting of dot, one, dot, and dot balls, ensured a 27-run victory for RCB, securing their spot in the playoffs. Consequently, CSK was eliminated from the tournament.
Dhoni's six, while momentarily promising, ultimately contributed to CSK's downfall, highlighting the unpredictable nature of cricket.
