Over 200 doctors from Hyderabad’s Gandhi hospital who staged a protest since Tuesday evening after a PG doctor was assaulted by the relatives of a patient who died of Covid-19, has now called off the protest on Wednesday.
They decided to call off their protests and are all set to join their regular duties after they had a meeting with Health Minister, Eatala Rajender and other senior health officials.
The doctors also held a ‘rasta roko’ outside the Gandhi Hospital premises since 9 am on Wednesday. They demanded that the health minister or chief minister should meet them and resolve the issues of security, filling up of posts across cadre and decentralize treatment of Covid-19 patients from Gandhi to other hospitals.
The deceased 55-year-old male patient was admitted at the Gandhi Hospital with mild respiratory failure in the AMC (acute medical ward). Despite his conditions, he went to the washroom by removing his CPAP mask and suffered a cardiac arrest and passed away at around 7.30 pm on Tuesday. Enraged by the death, the patient attendees attacked a PG doctor on duty.
Following it, the doctors, residents, house surgeons and others for 18 hours first sat inside the hospital compound outside the Gandhi Hospital building and later shifted out of the complex, on to the main road, though the police tried to stop them.
