Harish Rao Slams Congress Government Over Flood Mismanagement in Medak, Kamareddy

BRS senior leader and former minister T. Harish Rao launched a sharp attack on the Congress government, accusing it of negligence and mismanagement during the recent floods in Medak and Kamareddy districts. He alleged that despite advance warnings from the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the administration failed to take precautionary steps, leading to devastating crop losses and tragic deaths.
Inspecting affected areas, Harish Rao cited the deaths of Bestha Satyanarayana and Yada Goud, whose auto-rickshaw was washed away by floodwaters. The two victims reportedly clung to an electric pole for hours, desperately calling officials and Congress leaders for help. However, no assistance came, and they were swept away when the pole collapsed. Rao contrasted this with the government’s use of helicopters for ministers’ travel, accusing them of ignoring ordinary citizens’ plight.
He demanded ₹25 lakh ex gratia for the bereaved families and ₹25,000 compensation per acre for farmers whose fields were submerged. Rao criticised Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy for prioritising a Musi beautification review meeting instead of preparing the state for impending floods.
Highlighting the ground reality, Rao said that villagers in Dhup Singh Thanda and Havelighanpur were stranded without food or drinking water, with some forced to consume rainwater. He accused the Chief Minister and his Cabinet of gross dereliction of duty and urged immediate relief measures.
During his visit, Harish Rao also consoled the victims’ families, accompanied by BRS leaders including MLA Kotha Prabhakar Reddy and former Deputy Speaker M. Padma Devender Reddy.
