Hijab Ban: Karnataka High Court Reserves Judgment After 11 Days Hearing

The Karnataka High Court reserved judgments on a batch of cases filed by students against the ban on wearing hijab inside educational institutions after 11 days of hearings.

The High Court ordered all parties to submit written submissions to the court. A bench of the High Court headed by Chief Justice Ritu Raj Awasthi has been hearing on a day-to-day basis in the last two weeks a batch of petitions filed by Muslim girls seeking permission to wear the hijab in educational institutions with uniforms.

During the hearing on Friday, the High Court also said that it has sought a report from the state govt on the role of radical organizations behind the Hijab controversy in the state. Subhash Jha said the agitation pushing for wearing hijabs in school rooms was the work of radical organizations funded by foreign nations.

On Thursday, February 24, The State govt informed the High Court that a FIR has been registered against the Campus Front of India (CFI) members, who had allegedly threatened some teachers in the Govt Pre-University Girls College in Udupi district. This was after the govt PU college in Udupi, which is at the centre of the hijab row in Karnataka, told the Karnataka High Court that the CFI ‘instigated’ 6 students to start wearing a hijab to class.
