History Today: Remembering Yuvi’s Six Sixes in an Over!

September 19^th, 2007, the date no cricket fan can ever forget. Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh created history by hitting six sixes in one over at Kingsmead cricket ground in Durban, South Africa. Yuvraj was literally on fire and had scored the fastest fifty in any form of cricket.

The Indian team was struggling against England to keep their chances to make it to semi-finals alive, in the first edition of the T20 world cup. The men in blue were batting first and scored 171/3 in 18 overs. The drama unfolded in the last two overs when Yuvraj and then skipper M. S. Dhoni were on the crease. They were aiming to score as many runs as possible in the death overs.

In the previous over, Yuvraj smashed two fours to English bowler Andrew Flintoff. This agitated Flintoff and they got involved in a verbal duel. Empires had to intervene to end the fight. But the fight led to an adrenaline rush in Yuvraj and the angry bird took out his frustration on Stuart Broad in the 19^th over by hitting six sixes in consecutive six deliveries.

Till date, it is the fastest half-century (of 12 balls) in the T20 cricket. India put forward a target of 219 for England, but they were restricted by the Indian bowlers to just 200/6.

Team India kept their winning streak in the tournament and finally lifted the trophy in the first T20 world cup.
