Hyderabad Airport Receives Bomb Threats to Three Incoming Flights
Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad faced a tense situation late Sunday night after bomb threats were issued to three incoming flights, including two international carriers. According to airport sources, emails were received threatening British Airways flight BA 277 from Heathrow, Lufthansa flight LH 752 from Frankfurt, and IndiGo’s 6E 7178 from Kannur. Despite the alarming messages, all flights landed safely, with the two international services touching down during the early hours of Monday.
Upon receiving the threats, standard aviation security protocols were immediately activated. Authorities isolated the aircraft upon arrival, screened all passengers and baggage, deployed sniffer dogs, and ensured that emergency fire services were stationed on standby. These measures, part of the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), are designed to prevent risk and ensure passenger safety in the event of such threats.
This incident follows a similar pattern of recent threats received by RGIA. Last week, the airport had received bomb threat emails targeting multiple flights, including Emirates’ Dubai–Hyderabad service and IndiGo flights from Madina and Sharjah. One of the threatened flights, Madina–Hyderabad, was diverted to Ahmedabad as a precautionary measure. Authorities are investigating the origin of the latest emails and assessing whether they are connected to earlier threats. Meanwhile, passengers onboard the affected flights were informed of the situation only after landing safely. The matter has once again brought attention to rising instances of hoax threats targeting aviation, prompting security agencies to heighten vigilance and track down those responsible.
