Hyderabad Police Expose iBomma Piracy Racket; 21,000 Films and ₹3 Crore Seized
In a major breakthrough against digital piracy, Hyderabad Police have uncovered shocking details of the vast illegal movie distribution network operated by Ravi, the mastermind behind the notorious website iBomma. Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar revealed that Ravi had uploaded nearly 21,000 pirated films, earning close to ₹20 crore, and simultaneously promoting online betting platforms, creating an interconnected web of criminal activity.
During the investigation, police found that Ravi operated 65 mirror websites to continuously evade law enforcement. His seized hard disk contained thousands of pirated movies, ranging from Hollywood classics like The Godfather to the latest Telugu releases such as OG. Officials have already confiscated ₹3 crore from his accounts.
Commissioner Sajjanar stated that the complexity and international links of the operation require escalation of the case to the CBI and Enforcement Directorate. Ravi’s network allegedly consisted of nearly 50 lakh users, exposing them to data theft and cyber fraud through piracy-linked betting apps.
Investigators discovered that Ravi purchased 101 domain names, frequently switching between them to bypass blocks. He leaked films released on OTT platforms and distributed theatre-recorded camera prints through Telegram groups. Over time, Ravi shifted his focus from piracy to promoting betting apps, sharing APK files that put users at severe cyber risk.
The police have already taken down the iBomma and Bappam websites and are tracking all individuals who profited from the racket. Sajjanar warned that even meme creators targeting police with derogatory content will face strict action.
The case represents one of the largest digital piracy crackdowns in India, highlighting the need for stronger cyber laws and public awareness about the dangers of illegal online platforms.
