ISRO Successfully Launches GSat7A

The Indian space research Organisation (ISRO) on Wednesday sent military communication satellite GSAT-7A into space. The 26-hour countdown commenced on Tuesday for the launch of GSAT-7A onboard geosynchronous Launch Vehicle GSLV-F11 from Sriharikota, ISRO said.

The lift-off of GSLV-F11, carrying 2,250kg GSAT-7A, commenced at 4.10pm on Wednesday from the second launch pad at the spaceport of Sriharikota.

The communication satellite will add new wings to the Indian Air Force because it can connect all IAF assets like planes, airborne early warning control platforms, drones and ground stations, building a centralised network, reports said.

GSLV-F11 will inject GSAT-7A into a Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit (GTO). The satellite is going to be placed in its final geosynchronous orbit (GEO) using the onboard propulsion system. it'll take few days after separation from the launcher to reach its orbital slot, ISRO said.

GSLV – F11 is ISRO’s fourth generation launch vehicle with 3 stages. The four liquid strap-ons and a solid rocket motor at the core form the primary stage. The second stage is equipped with a high thrust engine using liquid fuel. The cryogenic upper Stage forms the third and final stage of the vehicle.

GSAT-7A is the thirty-fifth Indian Communication satellite designed by ISRO. GSAT-7A space vehicle is designed on ISRO’s standard I-2000 kg (I-2K) Bus. The Satellite is made to provide communication capability to the users in Ku-band over the Indian region.
