India Creates History with Third T20 World Cup Title
India created history in international cricket by winning the ICC Men's T20 World Cup and becoming the first team to lift the prestigious trophy three times. In a spectacular final held at the Narendra Modi Stadium, India defeated New Zealand national cricket team by a commanding margin of 96 runs.
After losing the toss and being asked to bat first, India delivered a stunning batting performance. The team posted a massive total of 255 for five wickets, which became the highest score ever recorded in a T20 World Cup final.
The innings was powered by outstanding half-centuries from Sanju Samson, Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan. Samson played a brilliant knock of 89 runs and continued his remarkable form in the tournament by registering his third consecutive half-century. Abhishek Sharma provided explosive momentum during the powerplay with a quick 52 runs off just 21 balls, reaching his fifty in only 18 deliveries. Ishan Kishan further strengthened India’s position with a rapid 54 runs from 25 balls.
Chasing a daunting target of 256 runs, New Zealand struggled to keep pace with the required run rate. Despite efforts from Tim Seifert, who scored 52 runs, and captain Mitchell Santner, who added 43, the rest of the batting lineup failed to build meaningful partnerships.
India’s bowlers maintained tight control throughout the innings. Jasprit Bumrah led the attack with four wickets, while Axar Patel claimed three crucial scalps. Hardik Pandya, Varun Chakravarthy and Abhishek Sharma also contributed with a wicket each.
Under the captaincy of Suryakumar Yadav, India displayed remarkable teamwork throughout the tournament. Having previously won the inaugural edition in 2007 and again in 2024, India’s triumph in 2026 established them as the most successful team in T20 World Cup history.
