Coronavirus cases in India continue to rise as the country crosses the 78 lakh mark today that is on 24 October.
A total of 53,370 new infections and 650 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours and has taken India’s total tally to 78,14,682, data from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said on Saturday.
The death toll due to coronavirus also climbed up to 1,17,956. The total number recoveries in the country reached 70,16,046 pushing the national recovery rate to 89.78 percent, while COVID-19 case fatality rate has further declined to 1.51 percent.
Meanwhile, The active cases in the country also dropped below 7-lakh mark after a decrease of 14,829 cases and 67,549 discharges/recoveries during the last 24 hours.
Maharashtra continues to be the worst-hit with a total of 16,25,197 cases, including 42,831 deaths; followed by Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi.
According to Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), total 10,13,82,564 samples have been tested for COVID-19 up to 23rd October. Of these, 12,69,479 samples were tested on Friday itself.
