India recorded its highest daily spike of 75,760 cases of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours to reach a worldwide cumulative tally of 33.1 lakh cases.
Meanwhile, the death toll climbed to 60,472 with 1,023 fatalities being reported in 24 hours. Also, a total of 25,23,771 patients having recovered so far.
There are 7,25,991 active cases of coronavirus infection in the country which comprises 21.93 percent of the total caseload, the data stated.
With 1,73,195 cases, Maharashtra has the highest number of active cases and 23,089 patients succumbed to the disease in the state.
Andhra Pradesh, the third worst-hit state, reported 10,830 fresh COVID-19 cases – a record high and the total count shot up to 3,82,469.
According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 9,24,998 samples were tested on Wednesday and over 3.85 crore samples have been tested so far.
