Indians Lack Required Skillsets: IBM Chief
The chief of the American technology giant IBM, Ginny Rometty, stated that Indians lack required skillsets for tech jobs, though jobs are available. “The same problem is faced in other markets as well,” she added.
The USD 180-billion domestic software industry directly employs over 4 million people. Basing on the similar concerns voiced from other tech leaders, Rometty said, "In India, you have the same issues. Open jobs, (but) no matching skill sets.”
According to private economic think tank CMIE data, there was 31.2 million youth looking for jobs.
"It can be that you can have folks with less than a university degree, but participate well in this industry," Rometty said.
There are plenty of jobs and the equal number of people is looking to get them, but the problem is with skillsets, Rometty said. She also said businesses and governments have to work together to solve the issue.
