India’s tally of confirmed cases of coronavirus jumped to 81,37,119 after it registered 48,268 new cases on the day. While the country’s COVID-19 death toll climbed to 12,21,11with 470 new fatalities.
As per the government data, 5,82,649 cases are still active in the country while 74,32,829 people have been cured or discharged or have migrated.
India’s COVID-19 tally had crossed the 20-lakh mark on August 7, 30 lakh on August 23 and 40 lakh on September 5. It went past 50 lakh on September 16, 60 lakh on September 28, 70 lakh on October 11 and crossed 80 lakh on October 29.
Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka have reported the highest number of cases. However, infections are rising rapidly in states like Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal.
Maharashtra remains the state hit hardest by the pandemic, with over 16 lakh COVID -19 cases, including 43,911 deaths. 5,548 cases were reported in the last 24 hours pushing the death count to 74.
India has seen a 30 percent dip in the month of October since March but experts says that there could be a spike in the number of cases during the festive season.
