Jitendra Kumar Maheswari on Thursday is appointed as Andhra Pradesh’s Chief Justice of High Court after the Union Law Ministry has issued the orders. He is currently working as a judge in the Madhya Pradesh High Court. AP Governor Biswabhushan Harichandan will administer the oath of office to Justice Jitendra Kumar very soon. Earlier, the Central government did not approve and returned the recommendation of Supreme Court Collegium for appointing Justice Vikramnath as AP Chief Justice and so, the Collegium has recommended Justice Jitendra Kumar.
The Collegium is headed by Supreme Court Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi, Justice Bobde and Justice NV Ramana. Currently, it is said that the AP government will shift the High Court to Kurnool. However and this made advocates in the coastal region to protest against it. The advocates had also boycotted courts demanding the continuation of the High Court in Amaravati.
Justice Maheshwari enrolled as an advocate on November 22, 1985, and practiced in the High Court of MP at Gwalior. He was later appointed as a judge of the MP High Court on November 25, 2005.
