Kamala Harris Reveals Trump’s Call After 2024 Defeat

In her upcoming memoir 107 Days, set for release on September 23, former US Vice President Kamala Harris recounts her phone call with Donald Trump after losing the 2024 election.
Harris writes that Trump, often combative on the campaign trail, was unexpectedly cordial during the call, praising her toughness, intelligence, and even correctly pronouncing her name after months of mispronunciations. He told her, “You also have a beautiful name. I got use of that name, it’s Kamala.” Harris admitted she had hoped to use the call to urge Trump toward unity but quickly realized it was futile.
The memoir also offers insight into her campaign after Joe Biden’s withdrawal, describing her initial preference for Pete Buttigieg as running mate. She felt, however, that America might not accept a ticket with both a Black woman and a gay man. She instead selected Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, but they ultimately lost to Trump. Buttigieg later reacted, suggesting voters deserved more credit and that trust is earned through promises of action, not identity categories. The memoir paints Harris’s journey as a blend of ambition, strategy, and disillusionment in one of the most challenging campaigns in recent history.
