Kedarnath banned in 7 Uttarakhand districts
Sushant Singh Rajput and Sara Ali Khan-starrer, Kedarnath, has been banned in seven Uttarakhand districts by two district magistrates.
On Thursday, the district magistrates of Nainital and Udham Singh Nagar imposed a ban on the movie Kedarnath, feeling it disrupts law and order. However, the state government hasn’t imposed any ban.
The district magistrates said that there is a high possible of disturbances if the movie gets released in the 7 districts of Uttarkhand.
The state government conducted a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat late in the evening, after the submission of a report by the committee.
The committee is being headed by Tourism minister Satpal Maharaj. After examining the objections to the movie, he felt there is no need of official ban.
However, the decision was left to the district magistrates to allow screening of the movie or not, depending on the situation in particular areas.
Information Secretary Dilip Jawalkar, DGP Anil Raturi, ADG B Vinay Kumar,ADG Ashok Kumar and Additional Secretary Ashish Joshi attended the meeting.
Set against the backdrop of the 2013 floods, Kedarnath depicts the love story of a Muslim porter and a Hindu girl on a pilgrimage.
Sushant Singh Rajput and Sara Ali Khan were seen in the lead roles. Those who are seeking a ban on the movie accused it of hurting Hindu sentiments.
