LandGrabbers Eyes on Graveyards

Plots, hospitals, lakes, government sites were the pick of the sites for land-grabbers. But now they have changed their route as they are looking on to take hold of graveyards to construct buildings or lay sheds.

The issue of land grabbing the graveyards came up when some of the activists raised their denunciation seeing graveyards turning into Residential buildings in Yakutpura and another graveyard trying to be poached was Dargah Hazrat Wasil Shah at Kacheguda.

Hussain Shah a resident at Kacheguda claimed that encroachments are not any recent and are been done over a period of 10years and even more to convert these graveyards into commercial complexes or buildings. But there is no stoppage of these illegal activities from any end. The land poachers target the Waqf Lands as they don't contain any legal documents.

Some of the graveyards namely Taqya Allahu Ghani at Ziaguda, Masjid Abdulla Khan graveyard at Rahimpura are being under the same fate.

Mohammed Habeebuddin, a Waqf activist opined that in most places, graveyards are demolished completely for laying out the concrete jungle and some of them partial done which exist between the residential built up. Many graveyards are turned into dump yards too. Government officials need to conduct a survey of the graveyards to protect them from encroachments.

Waqf board officials stated that as soon as they get the information of any encroachment into the Waqf lands they are taking no time in taking it to the concern of government officials and are registering cases against the encroachers.

Senior Waqf Board member said that “ We have registered cases against illegal occupants of graveyards at Masjid Alamgir Eidgah in Guttala Begumpet Village near Madhapur, Qutub Shahi, and Dargah Hazrat Ibrahim Shah Sahab and a graveyard in Attapur”.
