Men Are More Likely To Get Infected And Die By COVID-19
The havoc created by the coronavirus has shaken the world. Till now, the number of COVID-19 positive cases has climbed to 649 alone in India. According to the Health Ministry, the death toll from the coronavirus has risen to 13 in the country.
Unhealthy lifestyle habits, such as drinking, poor health, smoking, are being assumed to be some factors that have contributed to the number of deaths because of COVID-19. Researchers now predict that men can be more likely to get infected and die due to the infection than women.
The trend was first observed in China, the analysis found a fatality rate of 2.8% in men compared with 1.7% in women. China is the epicenter of the outbreak. The rising death rates for men were almost 50% higher than the women of the country.
Similarly, cases of COVID-19 from various countries, like Italy, have a strong representation of men. According to the country’s National Health Institute, nearly 60% of the people who were tested positive with this deadly virus were men.
Even over 70 percent of the positives who later died due to the infection were men. Other countries like South Korea have portrayed similar trends, the country reported about 54% of the death numbers were men.
Though, the Health officials have already started to make note of these trends to get a meaningful conclusion. The nationwide data of the US once released, would give a clear picture if any gender were more vulnerable than the other to the noval virus, reported a reputed news channel.
