Ministerial Portfolios Announced in Telangana Cabinet
Two days following the swearing-in ceremony of new ministers, the Chief Minister, A Revanth Reddy, disclosed the portfolios for the members of the new Cabinet on Saturday. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, retaining key responsibilities such as Municipal Administration and Urban Development, General Administration, Law and Order, decided to oversee unallocated portfolios himself.
Before finalizing the ministerial portfolios, Revanth Reddy sought approval from the party high command during his visit to Delhi on Friday. The approved list of ministers and their respective portfolios was then submitted to Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan on Saturday morning. The State government formalized this announcement through the issuance of a gazette notification.
Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu, who previously served as the Congress Legislative Party (CLP) leader, will take charge of pivotal portfolios, including Finance & Planning and Energy. Meanwhile, former TPCC chief and senior Congress leader N Uttam Kumar Reddy has been assigned the portfolios of Irrigation & CAD, Food, and Civil Supplies.
Other notable appointments include C Damodar Rajanarasimha, former deputy Chief Minister in the Kiran Kumar Reddy-led government, who has been allotted Health, Medical and Family Welfare, along with the Science and Technology Ministry. Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, a former minister in YS Rajasekhara Reddy’s government, will oversee Roads & Buildings and Cinematography.
D Sridhar Babu, a former minister in the YSR Cabinet, is tasked with the portfolios of Information Technology, Electronics & Communications, Industries & Commerce, and Legislative Affairs. Former Karimnagar MP Ponnam Prabhakar will handle the Backward Class Welfare and Transport ministries.
Among the women ministers, Konda Surekha, who served in the YSR government, will be responsible for Forest & Environment and Endowments Ministries. D. Anasuya, alias Seethakka, will oversee Panchayat Raj and Rural Development (including rural water supply), Women and Child Welfare Ministries.
The portfolios of Prohibition & Excise, Tourism & Culture, and Archaeology have been entrusted to Jupally Krishna Rao, a former minister in the YSR regime. Agriculture, Marketing, Co-operation, and Handlooms & Textiles will be managed by Tummala Nageshwara Rao, who served as a minister in both N Chandrababu Naidu and K Chandrashekhar Rao’s governments.
Former MP Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy has been assigned the responsibilities of Revenue and Housing, along with Information & Public Relations. Anticipating further expansion, six more ministers may be accommodated in the government in the upcoming days.
