Modi Govt. to Extend the RTE Act!
Polls ahead, the central government now is considering extending the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education up to Class XII.
“The proposal is under the consideration of ministry. After examining properly, the decision would be intimated”, the ministry of human resource development said.
The RTE Act now is applicable only to children between 6 and 14 years studying from Class I to VIII. It requires all private schools, to reserve 25 percent seats for underprivileged children (except for minority institutions).
The proposal of extending the RTE act came out after a month of the Centre introducing 10 percent reservation for economically weaker sections among the general category.
Ashok Agarwal highlighted that some schools are not following the RTE Act of providing free education up to XIII and so it is not possible to extend the law.
People opine that it is required to implement the current laws before extending them or introducing new laws.
