Mortal Remains of Telangana Techie Brought Back from US

The mortal remains of Telangana software engineer Mohammed Nizamuddin, who was shot dead in Santa Clara, California, on September 3, reached Hyderabad on Sunday. His body was flown to Rajiv Gandhi International Airport and later transported to his hometown, Mahabubnagar, for the final rites.
The Telangana government intervened promptly, writing to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) for assistance. Following this, the Indian Consulate in San Francisco coordinated with the Santa Clara police to complete formalities. Family members, along with MBT leader Amjed Ullah Khan, received the body at the airport.
According to Santa Clara police, officers responded to a 911 call and found Nizamuddin holding a knife over his roommate. Police fired four shots, killing him on the spot. However, his family has demanded a thorough inquiry, claiming there may be more to the incident.
Shockingly, although Nizamuddin died on September 3, his family only learned about his death on September 18, through a friend. Relatives described this as deeply traumatic.
Nizamuddin, 32, had been unemployed for over a year and was living with three roommates. He had previously posted online about harassment at work and by his roommates. The police noted that his social media post, describing his distress, was uploaded just hours before the incident.
The tragedy has sparked questions about the treatment of immigrants abroad, as well as the slow communication that left the family in anguish. While his return home brings closure for loved ones, relatives and local leaders are urging the MEA to push for an independent investigation. For now, his hometown grieves the loss of a young life cut short under troubling circumstances.
