NCRB Reports 13 Lakh Missing Girls, Women in 3 Years
In the three years from 2019 to 2021, about 8.32 girls and women go missing on average every minute.
Between 2019 and 2021, more than 13.13 million girls and women went missing in the country. In Madhya Pradesh, where nearly two million girls and women went missing, the number was the highest, followed by West Bengal.
Last week, the Union home minister gave information to Parliament about how 10,61,648 women over 18 and 2,51,430 girls under 18 went missing between 2019 and 2021. The National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) collected the data, which showed that 1,60,180 women and 38,234 girls went missing in Madhya Pradesh, 1,56,905 women and 36,606 girls went missing in West Bengal, and 1,78,400 women and 13,033 girls went missing in Maharashtra.
The cops in Telangana state said that 87 percent of the missing girls and women in the state had been found. It was found that missing girls and women in the state had nothing to do with major crimes like trafficking for sexual abuse, child labor, bonded labor, begging, child marriage, and other things like that. Recovery rates in Telangana are higher than the average of 62% for the country as a whole.
"The cops have been keeping track of all missing people and starting probes right away. "Telangana is one of the best states for finding missing people," said a police officer from Telangana.
The government also told Parliament that it had taken a number of steps to make the country safer for women. One of these was passing the Criminal Law (Amendment) Act, which makes it possible for the death penalty to be used for raping girls younger than 12 years old. It said that rape cases had to be investigated and charge sheets filed within two months, and hearings had to be over in another two months.
