Nampally Fire Victims’ Families to Receive ₹5 Lakh Ex-Gratia
The Telangana government has announced an ex-gratia payment of ₹5 lakh to the families of those who lost their lives in the tragic fire mishap at Nampally. Revenue Minister P. Srinivas Reddy made the announcement on Sunday, assuring strict legal action against those responsible for the incident and full government support to the bereaved families.
Directing Hyderabad District Collector Harichandana Dasari to immediately disburse the compensation, the Minister said the government would ensure timely assistance to the victims’ kin. The fire, which broke out on Saturday, claimed several lives and triggered widespread concern over safety lapses in commercial buildings.
Preliminary investigations by the authorities revealed that the fire was caused due to the negligence of the shop owner operating in the building. Based on initial findings, the shop owner has been taken into custody for questioning. The Minister stated that the government would not tolerate negligence that endangers lives and that stringent legal action would follow once the investigation is completed.
He further emphasised that the incident highlights the urgent need for stricter enforcement of fire safety regulations in crowded commercial areas. Officials have been instructed to conduct inspections and ensure compliance with safety norms to prevent such tragedies in the future.
The Telangana government reiterated its commitment to standing by the affected families during this difficult time. Apart from financial compensation, officials said additional support measures would be extended wherever required. The incident has once again drawn attention to urban fire safety and the importance of accountability in maintaining public safety standards.
