New Trump Immigration Policy Might Scare the International Students
Trump's policies have been already scaring away the international university students and recently one more such policy got added to the list. According to the latest reports, the next step in the immigration corner for the students may be to limit the length of stay for international students after they are admitted to the United States.
The date tentatively fixed for the proposed rule is somewhere around the 3rd week of February. The new policy will impact the current ‘duration of stay’, especially for international students. The guidelines will specify the maximum period of authorized stay.
It would require them to gain new approval at each stage of their studies in the United States, such as a transition from an undergraduate to a graduate-level program.
When inquired about, the extra costs incurred from international students could be around $1,500 or more per extension. H-1B visa holding students who are trying to extend their status would face the prospect of USCIS adjudicators denying student extension requests.
It has been seen in the last few months that international students enrollment has declined and that is due to higher costs in the United States and restrictive Trump administration immigration policies. Educators predict that the new policy would restrict it further.
