News Anchor Arnab Goswami Arrested And Beaten By Police

Republic TV’s editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami was arrested today in a connection with a 2018 suicide case.
Arnab got arrested along with two others on charges of abetment to suicide of a 53-year-old interior designer and his mother in 2018. Two other who were arrested have been identified as Feroz Shaikh and Nitesh Sarda.
He was arrested for having connection with the death of interior designer Anvay Naik and his mother Kumud Naik. The mother-son duo was found dead in May 2018.
The magistrate instructed police to take him to a civil surgeon and produce him again following a second medical examination. Arnab’s lawyer who was with him at the Alibag Police Station said that he has suffered injury after being heckled by the Police.
Mumbai Police blocked Republic Executive editor Niranjan Narayanswamy and senior associate editor Sanjay Pathak from entering Arnab’s residence.
In support, Home Minister Amit Shah tweeted, “Congress and its allies have shamed democracy once again. Blatant misuse of state power against Republic TV & Arnab Goswami is an attack on individual freedom and the 4th pillar of democracy.”
“It reminds us of the Emergency. This attack on free press must be and WILL BE OPPOSED, he added.
Minister Prakash Javadekar said, “We condemn the attack on press freedom in Maharashtra. This is not the way to treat the Press. This reminds us of the emergency days when the press was treated like this,” posted Information and Broadcasting.”
