In a recent update from Pfizer, the company has revealed that their vaccine is 95 percent effective against the earlier claims of showing 90 percent effectiveness against the vaccine. The vaccine candidate also passes the safety checks and claimed no serious side effects.
Meanwhile, Moderna has claimed that its experimental vaccine was 94.5 percent effective, based on interim data from a late-stage clinical trial.
Both the vaccine has raised high hopes all around the world. But as they show high effectiveness against the virus, they also require intense storage mechanisms which is difficult for the government to manage.
The Pfizer vaccine must be stored at about minus 80C, although it can be kept in a fridge for five days. Moderna’s vaccine needs to be stored at minus 20C for up to six months and kept in a standard fridge for up to a month.
Both the vaccines some of the side effects and most side effects appear soon after an injection and remain only for a short period. There are headaches and fatigue in about 2% of volunteers given the vaccine, although older people seemed to experience minimal side effects.
However, most people are willing to accept that small level of risk for massive benefit to their children and public health generally from vaccination programs.
