Sachin Tendulkar Wins Laureus Sporting Moment Award
Sachin Tendulkar, on Monday, won the Laureus World Sports Award for Laureus Sporting Moment for the period between 2000 to 2020.
Laureus World Sports Award is the 20th anniversary edition of the event also known as the ‘Oscars of Sports’. The award celebrates moments from the past two decades where sport has unified people in the most extraordinary way. Sachin Tendulkar received the award from former Australian captain Steve Waugh after Tennis legend Boris Becker made the announcement.
Sachin and team India were presented the award for the moment when Team India members carried Tendulkar on their shoulders across the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai following their 2011 World Cup victory. Speaking after being honoured with the award Sachin said, “The feeling of winning the World Cup was beyond what words can express. How many times you get an event happening where there are no mixed opinions? Very rarely the entire country celebrates.”
Tendulkar is widely regarded as one of the greatest batsmen in the history of cricket and has now taken retirement from the all forms of the game. He stills hold the record for the highest run-scorer in international cricket.
